Auto Repair

Having bought a second hand car, my husband and I have been experiencing several issues with it. Well, since we didn't know the first owner, we weren't sure how the car was treated and all, although its body seems to be in good condition. But well, since the reality is that we currently cannot and do not want to finance a new one, we stuck with a second hand one.

My cousin who lives in Texas is fortunate to have spent only several hundred dollars in a Dallas auto repair shop. He purchased a Chevrolet Silverado but I'm not 100% sure what year/make it was. After assessing the car's condition, they did some minor repairs on it plus a brake job. Now, the car is running as smooth as ever.

So all in all, this got me thinking. Buying a second hand car isn't as bad as some people would think. It really depends on choosing the right one, and then taking it to a trusted repair shop to get anything that might need fixing to be fixed.

Need Help with your Home Appliances?

It was that day of the week again where I need to do laundry, an activity I do every week. I have a Maytag washer with a model number of LAT9206BAE, and it’s been with me for several years already. So, with everything set, I turn it on and guess what? My washer won’t start. So what’s wrong with my washer?

I’ve seriously considered getting a new one, especially since I’ve been using this washer for like 5 years already, and that’s saying a lot. But with the holidays just around the corner, I was a bit hesitant in spending money for a new washer. Besides, what will I do with the one I currently have? I’ve never had any problems with it before until today, so I was really confused.

Since I knew my washer’s model number, I headed to my trusty laptop to check the internet. I was thinking, I couldn’t possibly be all alone in the world with this same problem, right? That’s when I came across this website, Partselect.com. It’s a pretty cool website which allows you to buy parts for various home appliances.

But it doesn’t stop there. Partselect.com not only allows you to buy parts from them with same-day shipping (a big plus especially if you’re in a hurry to get something fixed like I am), they also help you diagnose what could be wrong with your appliance and presents you with possible solutions to fix it.

For my washer, after I entered the model number (if you don’t know what your model number is or where to find it, all you need to do is to click on the little guy at the bottom right corner of the screen and he’ll help), the website gave me a list of the problems other people were having with my exact same washer. And guess what? There were other people whose washer’s wouldn’t start either, so I clicked on that to get some help.

Turns out, all I need to replace with my washer is the Lid Switch Assembly, a part that costs $21.10. Partselect states that replacing this part fixes the problem 100% of the time (of course I checked if the washer was plugged into the outlet). And since I’m not a technical type of person but I wanted to save as much as I can, I was pleased to find out that there were plenty of detailed installation instructions to help. All the tools I would need in getting it done was also listed, so I prepared in advance. I also showed my husband the diagrams and he read the instructions (a lot of them said it would take less than 15 minutes to get everything done). They were right! Hubby was done replacing our Lid Switch Assembly around 6 minutes tops.

Thank you Partselect.com! You saved me $$$ by showing me how to repair my washer and now it’s up and running again! Now, off to do some laundry…

Featured on Loqal.ph

Recently, I was featured on Loqal on their article about freelancers and freelancing. I cannot say anything else except for the fact that I am extremely flattered with the mention. I've been making a couple of posts on my blog about oDesk and how much I earn from it, but I never seriously thought other people would come to recognize it.

One thing I would like to point out though is the fact that oDesk is not a get-rich-quick-scheme. It entails lots of honest and hard work, and I think you should have a profitable skill even before venturing in the site, like writing, translation, etc.

Sure, I made Php71,000 last month on oDesk, but it wasn't an easy feat. I was almost always short of sleep, and I think I only got out of the house twice in that entire month for grocery shopping. I admit that time management is one thing I have to learn, since I really suck at it, lol! I feel like I'm always rushing through deadlines.

I have also been blessed with extremely great clients who for reasons of non disclosure I can't mention, not only have ongoing projects which I've had for months (some years), are a dream to work with. I know I've been lucky in that part, as some of my other friends get clients but after the project's over, they have to go through the entire process of searching and applying for jobs.

So for anyone who would like to take the gamble of working from home, I sincerely recommend keeping your existing job or whatever source of income you have before you decide to become a full time freelancer. Tread the waters first and make your decision from there. As the saying goes, don't take the plunge blindfolded.

I Want to Watch New Moon!

I am so wanting to watch New Moon!

But I don't think I will be able to watch it in the big screen any time soon...Next week is my eldest daughter's mid-quarter exams, so I need to thoroughly review her for all her subjects. Plus, Henry's schedule is pretty much eating up our weekends and weekdays, so I am totally unsure how and when I will be able to watch this movie.

I've read all the books, but seeing them in big screen is different. I am crossing my fingers that a miracle happens and I am able to watch New Moon. Keep your fingers crossed for me, too!

The Nurse's Guide to Good Living

The life of a nurse is no joke. It is serious hard work and the hard work lasts for hours and hours. Worse, these hours can be any hours of the day - including the wee hours. Scrubs are the usual outfit that people associate nurses with. White scrubs are usually the most common, since they represent cleanliness.

A nurse's life is very hard and rewarding at the same time. You get to help and take care of people and nurse them back to health. A nurse's career is also continuously evolving - at first you start to be a student nurse, then a new nurse, and eventually a seasoned nurse and help new nurses and teach them the lessons that can only be learned through experience.

If you happen to have a friend or a relative who is a nurse, nominate them for a Scrubby. You can make a friend or a family member their own award based on the times they make you laugh, the best smile, and so on. It's a great way to brighten someone's day. Or, you can participate in a nursing poll like if you are a fan of ER, House, etc, you can choose which is your favorite fictional portrayal of a nurse, what best to eat to de-stress, what to wear, and other questions nurses often find themselves asking. A trip to the tip jar is also great, since here seasoned nurses share their tips to newbies.

Cancer Caused by Asbestos Exposure

Cancer is a disease that almost everybody has known or encountered, either personally or through a friend or relative. There are different types of cancer that affects different parts of our body like the liver, the lungs, the colon, the breasts, and so on. There is though, this one type of cancer that I haven't heard of. This type of cancer is called Mesothelioma.

So you might wonder, what is Mesothelioma? It's actually a type of cancer, a very dangerous type at that, which is caused by asbestos exposure. Yes, the asbestos that is usually used by workers in the shipbuilding industry, construction, auto mechanics, contractors, and demolition. Sadly, this type of cancer not only the workers exposed to asbestos, but it also affects their families as well.

Asbestos manufacturers have gone bankrupt over the years, and the people who have this dangerous type of cancer that affected their lungs are often left with compensation. But having a Mesothelioma Lawyer makes a really big difference. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that asbestos manufacturers already knew the dangers of being exposed to it, but I guess some people choose profit over anything else, so instead of making the truth known to the public, they hid it instead, causing people and their families to suffer from this disease.

If you know someone who works in the industries I mentioned, do advise them to care extra precautions.

I've Been Hacked

Last May 13, I received an email from PayPal saying that my payment has been sent. This left me wondering because I haven't made any online purchases. So I logged into my PayPal account and there it was, I had sent a payment on May 13 to an email address I didn't know.

The first thing I did was to change my PayPal password, and from now on I use the on-screen keyboard when typing my password. I filed a dispute, and crossed my fingers. I did some research, and I tried the recipient's email in social networking sites like Friendster and FaceBook, and I found her in MySpace. She was 22 years old, from Canada, and had a lot of face piercings.

Just today, I logged into my email again and PayPal refunded my "payment" to this unknown person. What scares me is the fact that she was able to access my account and send my PayPal balance to hers. But I am trying to look on the bright side that my account was hacked when I didn't have that much funds in it.

Manny Pacquiao's Big Fight with Ricky Hatton

Today is Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton's big fight, and it's available on Pay Per View but here you can watch it live via satellite at SM Malls. I'm wishing Manny Pacquiao good luck as I always do, and I can't wait to see the results. I wonder who will win, will it be Manny Pacquiao or Ricky Hatton? I think this will be a great fight to watch.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Philippine pride!

I Got It!

I was finally able to buy the phone I've been raving about. It's the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music and I just love it. It has 80MB of internal memory and an 8GB memory card that I'm currently filling with songs. I also love the WiFi that it has - I'm able to reserve more blogging opportunities and write them when I get home.

This phone is also touch screen, with a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash. There's just lots and lots you can do with it and I'm glad I finally found a phone that really fits my needs.

Dakota Fanning is Cast for New Moon

If you watched I Am Sam, then you'll certainly remember Dakota Fanning. She's a really great child (back then) artist and I just read off the web that she's being considered as cast for New Moon, the second part of the Twilight series.

If everything works out, Dakota Fanning will be playing Jane, a child vampire that has the ability to inflict pain just by looking at you with her angelic face and crimson irises.

Having Dakota Fanning in New Moon would definitely be worth watching, and it just makes me wonder how the movie would turn out, with a new director and new additions to the cast as well.

A Great Jewelry Website

I came across this great home made jewelry website and I just love the products that are being sold. There are earrings, necklaces, and bracelets in in sterling silver. Other products include copper necklaces, chokers, bracelets, and earrings. They also have Japanese chainmail designs and magnetic jewelries. Of course, such items also have their own home made jewelry cleaner to better keep them shiny and bright!

7 Cream

Everybody wants smoother and younger looking skin. Well, who doesn't? There's this new product called 7 Cream with Manuka Honey that promises just that and more. Imagine an all-natural moisturizer that you can also use for treatment of insect bites, fungal infections, and other types of skin problems.
